Rebecca Stuhlbarg

Rebecca Stuhlbarg, MA, RYT, grew up playing violin and singing in choirs as well as musical theater productions, but it wasn’t until college that she found her passion for voice.

She also suffered from asthma as a child, which made her singing journey a difficult one. Dedication to a breath-based singing practice, as well as regular yoga practice, has healed her asthma and her voice; she now feels called to share the tools she has gained in that process.

Becca attended the University of California at Santa Cruz for both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance, where she studied voice with Patrice Maginnis and conducting with Nicole Paiement. She had many valuable experiences at UCSC, including teaching group voice classes as a graduate student, performing in the school’s yearly operas, and serving as assistant-conductor for the 2007 production of The Magic Flute. She also discovered her love and dedication to Hatha Yoga during these years.

Rebecca’s vocal journey has taken her from mezzo-soprano to high soprano and she looks forward to moving more into soprano repertoire, while sharing with her students her now deep understanding of breath, registers and voice types. She is also equipped to help students with musicianship as well as languages including French, German, and Italian.

Since receiving her Masters degree in 2007, Becca has been singing in the chorus with Opera San Jose, giving yearly voice recitals, studying voice with Betany Coffland and Linda Brice, and practicing and teaching Hatha yoga. Becca currently sings in the soprano section of the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, and she is honored to direct the Healing Voices Choir, a lively non-audition chamber choir here at Vox Academy. Becca has plenty of experience working with students of all ages and levels, including children. She is currently accepting students ages nine and up. In her free time, Becca enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her husband Joel and daughter Amelia who is now nine years old.
